Focus on Alternative and Complementary Therapies (FACT) aims to present the evidence on complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in an analytical and impartial manner. Launched in 1996, FACT is published four times per year by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. Its features include editorials, debates, book reviews, and many research summaries accompanied by expert commentary.
FACT has special value for those who wish to keep up with "CAM" reports in both mainstream and nonmainstream journals. It reports significant negative findings as well as positive ones and usually describes how current studies fit with previous ones. Its commentators don't hestitate to note when a study is poorly designed or the method under consideration is unsubstantiated.
Some commentaries are more optimistic than they should be. Rather than advising that senseless methods be abandoned, for example, some commentators merely states that higher-quality studies are needed. However, this type of flaw is more than balanced by the breadth of information that would be too expensive and time-consuming for most individuals to gather on their own.
